FALL '19 QUIZ INTERFACE

FOCUSED APP

The task at hand was to make an app to help my partner.
Partner: Hunter Age: 22 In college, computer science major.
Pain: Needed coffee, to well, live. Problem was, he didn’t know jack about it. Walking into a coffee shop he felt overwhelmed. So many options, how could one choose?
So I broke coffee down and organized to how he understood it. How fast he needs it, how strong it is, flavor, and iced or hot. Then to help Hunter out, I would probably ask him after he decided all those things if he liked it or not like he thought he would. Then I would probably store what he got somewhere so he could remember whether or not he liked it.
BUDDY SYSTEM
Going to design this interface I wanted to make sure the elements used to select things were well, interesting. You can’t escape a good button sometimes, but I sure tried to. So first we have a map. Just to see where he would want to get the coffee. Then we move to the rotary dial where he would drag the dial to the time he would want to spend waiting on his coffee. Next it asks how strong he wants it, in simple literal imagery. Then he selects on the pie chart how much of each flavor he wants in his coffee. And finally, hot or cold. Then it gives him an recommendation, and if he gets the coffee, he can go back and rate it to remember if he liked it or not using a slider. Then it gets saved to his profile.

HOW IT WORKS
I was really proud of this project when I went to present it…but I got a lot of feedback that the prototype itself was too static. I went back in and tried to make some of these interactions more alive. I focused too much on the aesthetic the first time, and the great ideas I had, and not enough on the usability. The next project I did (literally a week later) I tried my best to equal out good, aesthetically pleasing design with great motion techniques as well. The results are in my next project page, showcasing my Visual Storytelling centered Interactive Infographic.
